Clearing the Air
Posted on October 13, 2016
Besides temperature, the regulation of the purity of the air within the home is an important way to maintain optimal comfort levels. Ensuring that your home’s HVAC equipment is regular maintained is the first step; changing your furnace filter on a consistent basis (especially if your home is prone to dirt, hair, dust, smoke, etc.). Also, making sure all of your HVAC equipment is working efficiently is key; if your HVAC devices aren’t working as efficiently as they should be, they will utilize too much energy while being used, which will increase your energy bill and cause the equipment to wear much faster than it should because it’s forced to work much harder.
Besides keeping a close eye on all of the HVAC equipment in your home, here are some other things that you can do in order to improve and maintain air quality.
- Vacuum floors and carpets often, using a vac with a HEPA filter.
- Vacuum mattresses every two weeks, use allergy-proof mattress covers, and wash all bedding in hot water every week.
- Always use exhaust fans that vent to the outside in the kitchen (also in the bath and laundry areas). No exhaust fan? Open a window and use a small fan to move air outdoors.
